    Default Gamma/brightness/contrast issues

    Hi there.

I'm having some weird problems. It all started with me trying to take screenshots for the avatar requests form, I took a few but they all ended up darker than they were in-game. I tried increasing the gamma and all that to counteract the effect (in the Intel graphics and media control panel), but once I tabbed back in-game the changes were non-existent and when I tabbed out the changes were non-existent on the desktop as well (I even tried maxing it all out (making it all almost completely white before entering the game)).

I have tried to increase the brightness in-game, and that works if I want to play with a brighter screen, but the screenshots come out as dark as if I hadn't touched those controls (even with maximum brightness). When I have something in front of the game (when windowed) like a folder or a browser and I can see the game in the background, the brightness is the same as the screenshots (i.e. dark).

My drivers are up-to-date before you suggest upgrading them.

What program are you using to take the screen shot's?

I run STO through Steam which has its own screenshot program built in, and I've also tried the simple approach of pressing the "Print Screen"-button and pasting the image into Paint. Both approaches ended up with the same results.

do you guys have a Nvidia or ATI card? Nvidia for example has the option to define additional settings for separate games.

Also is the problem only STO related or do you have the same probs on other games?

I wish I had a NVIDIA/ATI card, but unfortunately I'm stuck with Intel GMA HD which has been nothing but trouble.

I've tried all available graphical settings: overriding application settings, etc., with no luck. I can't check to see if the problem is there in any other game as I don't have anything but STO installed right now. I'll try and find some free games on Steam to install and test. I'll install one outside of Steam as well, if Steam could be the culprit.

I run STO on Steam too. Never had that problem. But it would help to try it out in another game. At least you know if its only STO related or not.

I'll update as soon as I have bothered installing a new game. This is not an emergency situation, not for me at least (I can't speak for Drake), I'll give you an update as soon as I've tried to localize the problem. Thank you for your assistance.

It isn't an emergency situation for me either i was just wondering if i was the only one with those probs ...
My Card is an Nvidia and that's all xD
My thoughts were that it could be because of the paint program where we're copying our screenshots in. It could be that during the saving process the picture looses pixels and brightness It's only a theoretical approach but it seems legit to me

That happened to me as well, i.e. the image got even darker after saving it. But even before I saved it it was darker than it was in-game.
