I thought of deleting my tac/eng cuz that toon was weaker than my lvl 37 science toon. I decided not to since I've added more bank slots and inventory slots so it will be mainly my crafting toon. I crafted things for my KDF, science, and soon eng toons from my main toon. I have over 120 duty officers so not worth it... I just keep running assignments, refreshing them daily, getting lots of colonists at 500 dilithium once a day and running dilithium daily missions. so I earn 8,000 unrefined so as not to waste time running for more since they limit to 8,000 refined dilithium per day.
I discovered that my science was getting more drops from anomalies in space and on the ground during missions so I sent all those to my main via mail to store them for crafting things so I could make things for my science toon instead of spending money on overpriced equipments for ship/crew. I sold lots of things from crafting and from STFs and was able to spend lots of money on research lab scientists for the fleet project that has already costed me over 1 million ECs. So, yes, it's worth it keeping science, it's more powerful than tactical. At level 37 I went into a Borg invasion distress call, and I went solo against 2 Borg cubes, and killed them with ease at lvl VA 50. And I also killed the Borg mothership with lots of mine spreadings with my tac officers that lays 6 quantum mines that deals over 1,200 dmg each plus my gravity well lvl 3, scramble sensors that is my favorite for making enemies shoot each others for 8.2 seconds.Science is the best so far, and I plan to make it the best healer as I can. I have already nearly max'ed the science training, and worked up a bit on other skills. Also I wouldn't work skills on ground shield skills, I believe it's a waste of skill points since it would be drained fast. My science toon is a Vulcan, and I changed some passive skills and made her physiology stronger so that after shields are down she takes lots less damage. My science away team of 1 tac and 3 science were more successful than my tac/eng team.
Can y'all believe it that I've been playing STO for a total of only 1 month?I am a fast learner, and I am a big Star Trek fan, I began watching STNG as a kid in 1987, if I remember that year right. So it's easy to learn fast, but I still have lots more to learn ingame.
